2026 Applications

This year the Kiwanis Club of Calgary Chinook will again be offering 2 $1000 scholarships at Robert Thirsk High School and $2000 worth of Kiwanis Foundation of Canada Matching Bursaries. Please see the criteria and application forms below if you are interested in applying. Deadlines for both the Robert Thirsk High School scholarship and for the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada Matching Bursaries will be June 6, 2026.

2025 Recipients

In 2025 the Kiwanis Club of Calgary Chinook awarded several Scholarships to extraordinary young people.

First off Chinook Kiwanis proudly presented the Kiwanis Robert Thirsk High School Bursaries to two outstanding students. These bursaries honor academic excellence, community involvement, leadership, and citizenship. We’re thrilled to support and inspire our future compassionate leaders!

Celebrating Chantel L. and Neda H.’s amazing journies at Robert Thirsk High School! 

Chantel and Hayven

Chantel L. – will be pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing at Mount Royal University, inspired by her deep desire to support children and bring comfort to those in their most vulnerable moments.

A dedicated volunteer, Chantel has given her time to special needs students, Sunday school teaching, and handing out care bags to individuals experiencing homelessness. She also helped start her school’s Christian Club and has been active in volleyball, track, and badminton.

Chantel says, “Volunteering is an amazing and impactful way for me to give back and be a part of something bigger than myself.”

Congratulations, Chantel — your compassion, leadership, and commitment to service truly reflect the Kiwanis spirit!

Neda

Neda H. co-president of the Robert Thirsk Key Club, is described as a “powerhouse” leader with a calm, thoughtful, and inclusive approach. She has excelled academically, earning the Thirsk Award in both Grades 10 and 11, and will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of Calgary this fall.

Neda’s many contributions include volunteering with the Northmount Kiwanis Toy Project, Made by Momma, and the Muslim Youth Club, as well as completing a STEM internship at UCalgary.

In her words: “There is no greater empathetic act than volunteering. It provides insight into the many lives in your community…it showcases the human connection that everyone has.” We’re excited to see all that Neda will accomplish!

Paige W., who will be studying Nursing at Mount Royal University, is a dedicated student who earned honours throughout high school and has been a committed volunteer with organizations including the Calgary Humane Society, Champions of Hope, and Basically Babies. Her teacher describes her as someone who “naturally takes on a leadership role and extends empathy to all who cross her path.” Paige says: “Volunteering is something that brings me purpose and joy… even simple efforts can make a big impact.”

We are proud to support Paige as she begins her journey in nursing!

Rahma

Rahma A. This fall, Rahma will be pursuing Biological Sciences at the University of Calgary. She’s not only a star student with awards in math, biology, and chemistry, but also a dedicated volunteer and leader. Rahma has been active in the Key Club, school council, and as an executive of the Muslim Youth Club. Plus, she loves playing field hockey!

Rahma finds volunteering incredibly rewarding: “It exposes me to different perspectives and situations… Volunteering brings a sense of meaningful purpose.” Her Chemistry teacher praises her as “extremely driven, with an exceptional work ethic.”

We’re so proud to support Rahma on her journey of learning, leadership, and service!
