The Bike Program Is In Full Swing – Volunteering Opportunities

We’ve had 2 busy Bike Giveaways this spring and our next Bike Giveaway will be on Thursday, July 23 from 8:30am until Noon. We need volunteers to help assign bikes to agencies and help load them when they arrive. Other volunteers help to organize the helmets that are given away with each bike.

Leading up to the Bike Giveaway we will be having 3 Bike Preps. At these bike preps we need volunteers to help clean, repair and prepare bikes to be donated. Mechanical skills are a plus but not a reqirement. Dates for the Bike Preps are Tuesday July 14, Thursday July 16 and Tuesday July 21. The times for each of these dates is from 9:00am until Noon. Lunch is provided for volunteers.

Our last Bike Giveaway of the season will be Thursday, August 13. Leading up to the Bike Giveaway we will be having 3 Bike Preps. Dates for the Bike Preps are Tuesday August 4, Thursday August 6 and Tuesday August 11. The times for each of these dates is from 9:00am until Noon. Lunch is provided for volunteers.

Backpack and School Supplies Program

This year we are again partnering with CIBC Wood Gundy employees to do a backpack and school supply drive. In past years we have been able to donate approximately 80 backpacks full of school supplies to children through our partnering agencies. This year we were awarded 2 grants. One from the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada which matches the funds that we donate to the program. The other from the Kiwanis Children’s Fund through Kiwanis International. Through collaberation with the Calgary Police Foundation we were able to make contact with Bags in Bulk. All of these events have lead us to already purchase over 200 backpacks full of school supplies with more to come once we pick up the CIBC Wood Gundy supplies. We greatfully thank all of our partners and donors to this project!

If you are interested in volunteering for this project we will have several opportunities available. Friday, August 7 we will be picking up supplies from CIBC Wood Gundy. Friday, August 14 we will be sorting school supplies and stuffing backpacks. Thursday, August 27 will be our Backpack Giveaway event. Scholarship Presentation Evening

This year we are provinding scholarships to 3 amazing young people at our Scholarship Presentation Evening. It will be on Wednesday, August 19 at 7pm. It will take place at the Greater Forest Lawn +55 Seniors Society, 3425 – 26 Avenue SE Calgary. It will be a dessert and coffee meeting.
